Fallen Angel is the thirteenth book in the police procedural series featuring Detectives David Kane and Jenna Alton。 I picked up this series with Whisper in the Night (book 6) and I also thoroughly enjoyed books seven through to twelve。Set in Black Rock Falls, Montana, Sheriff Jenna Alton makes a very likeable detective。 Jenna has a good team to handle crime in the small town, which has certainly seen more than its fair share of murders! Her deputy, David Kane is a former Special Forces marksman with exceptional profiling skills。In this instalment, Jenna finds a single pearl earring in the frosty grass that gives them their first lead in the case of a young woman who goes missing from her hotel room at a ski resort and is found under the ice in a frozen lake。 As I knew it would be, this novel was a well balanced, electrifying and solid police procedural that had me glued to the pages。 I didn't want to put it down as I was desperate to know the outcome of the story。 This really was a spectacular, chilling and atmospheric crime-thriller that grabbed me hook, line and sinker。 All the time the tension snowballed as D。K。 Hood launched at me some captivating misdirection。 The writing flowed effortlessly and swiftly in a story rich in drama。 I will be seeking out the first five instalments of this masterful series。 A brilliant, compelling, pulse-pounding and very highly recommended crime-thriller。I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley。 This review is my own unbiased opinion。 。。。more

Fallen angel by D。K。 Hood。Detective Kane and Alton book 13。Hurrying along the dark, snow-covered path, she knows she’s not alone when she hears the light tread of someone behind her。 Panic rising in her chest, she picks up the pace。 But she doesn’t even have a chance to scream before everything goes black。Ooh my。 This just gets better and better。 I never want this series to end。 I love Jenna and David。 Another brilliant read in this series。 I love it。 5*。

Detectives Kane and Alton are on the case again in book #13 of the series。 This time they are snowed in at a mountain resort with a bunch of crime novelists and fans。 When one of the guests is found murdered, Jenna, Dave, and the rest of the team have to keep the stranded visitors safe while also finding the person responsible。 It seems like someone is taking their love of crime fiction too far。This series never disappoints and book 13 was no exception。 It kept me turning the page long after I s Detectives Kane and Alton are on the case again in book #13 of the series。 This time they are snowed in at a mountain resort with a bunch of crime novelists and fans。 When one of the guests is found murdered, Jenna, Dave, and the rest of the team have to keep the stranded visitors safe while also finding the person responsible。 It seems like someone is taking their love of crime fiction too far。This series never disappoints and book 13 was no exception。 It kept me turning the page long after I should have been asleep。 I can't wait to see what happens next with Kane and Alton。 Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC。 。。。more

A good, old Montana blizzard arrives to keep the killer and potential victims all confined up on the mountain with Sheriff Jenna Alton and part of her team watching the death tally climb。 Too many conference attendees who are potential suspects and a warped murderer who even sets the medical examiner's teenage daughter in their sights。 Lots of suspense and danger。 Plus, Jenny's relationship with her number two Dave Kane sees some major ups and downs。 An exciting page-turner plot for sure。I love this series about Sheriff Jenna and her team even though the killer in this book gets so gruesome with his planned murders that it was a bit too graphically cruel and violent for me (especially the final death)。 Medical Examiner Wolfe's daughter Julie's attitude and actions, with a decided lack of caution or concern for her own safety, drove me a little crazy。 Typical teenager ignorance of her own mortality and resentment of the people trying to protect her: her every move made me roll my eyes in exasperation at Julie's stupidity! But that's not saying I did not enjoy the story: it's suspenseful stuff! Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion。 。。。more

I am a big fan of this series of books with Detectives Kane and Alton。 I loved the setting of this book, the ski resort outside of town, it worked very well for a crime writers festival。 I struggled with this book in the series, perhaps it was a bit rushed out, I don't know but it was not my favourite。 It failed to grip me like the previous ones and I figured out the killer early on。 I would still recommend the series, however, just not this episode。 Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC。 I am a big fan of this series of books with Detectives Kane and Alton。 I loved the setting of this book, the ski resort outside of town, it worked very well for a crime writers festival。 I struggled with this book in the series, perhaps it was a bit rushed out, I don't know but it was not my favourite。 It failed to grip me like the previous ones and I figured out the killer early on。 I would still recommend the series, however, just not this episode。 Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC。 。。。more

I am back in Black Rock Falls for the thirteenth book in the series to feature Kane and Alton。 I have no words this book is fantastic。 Set in a hotel in the mountains we have a writers convention and a killer。 As the body count begins to rise the team needs to catch this very devious killer。 Each MO is different and having a hotel full of suspects is not going to be easy。 I literally had no idea who the killer was until the big reveal。 This series is one of all time favourites and this book is j I am back in Black Rock Falls for the thirteenth book in the series to feature Kane and Alton。 I have no words this book is fantastic。 Set in a hotel in the mountains we have a writers convention and a killer。 As the body count begins to rise the team needs to catch this very devious killer。 Each MO is different and having a hotel full of suspects is not going to be easy。 I literally had no idea who the killer was until the big reveal。 This series is one of all time favourites and this book is just as gripping, heart pounding and thrilling as the first book。 This author has some of the best serial killers and I can't wait to read more of this very addictive series。 Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review。 。。。more

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the arc of this book。 I am going to find the other books in this series, as this was my first one。 I would be more invested in the characters had I read the series from the beginning。 I found it hard to keep track of who was who because sometimes first names were used, sometimes last names。 The story was good and I loved how it was set at a book convention。 When the book really got going it went at a breakneck pace, but before that it was pretty slow。 3。5 s Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the arc of this book。 I am going to find the other books in this series, as this was my first one。 I would be more invested in the characters had I read the series from the beginning。 I found it hard to keep track of who was who because sometimes first names were used, sometimes last names。 The story was good and I loved how it was set at a book convention。 When the book really got going it went at a breakneck pace, but before that it was pretty slow。 3。5 stars rounded up to 4, but it would probably have been more if I had read the whole series。 。。。more

The resolution to this is insulting to Jenna's character。  Hood makes Jenna solely responsible for fixing her relationship with Dave。 He can't even be bothered to sit down and discuss the issue with her。 Instead, he pouts like a child being denied candy。 And the truly annoying part of this subplot is that every other character in the book telling Jenna that she is going to have to "make this right" with Dave because he will never make the first move。 So she does。 Yeah。 This is disappointing。 Hood just published a novella where Dave makes peace with his past (Breathe For Me) and feels ready to move on with his life。 Having Dave be commitment phobic once again felt like their relationship went back to step 1。 I was kind of hoping that their breakup would continue so that Dave and Jenna could get some real clarity on what they want and if they are willing to compromise to be together。 Instead, Hood took the easy way out and had Jenna apologize for being needy and standing up for herself。 Once she does that, Dave is all about being with Jenna。 Meh。Even though I love this series, I overall was not a fan of this installment。 It's a good book, but the relationship between Dave and Jenna overshadow the murder mystery。 。。。more

Another edition to the well established Kane & Alton series that has yet to disappoint, exceptional as always。 A tense engaging exciting read that had me hooked from the first page to the last。 Loved catching up with the gang (they feel like old friends) and their goings on, written in a wonderful setting with an amazing plot that is flawless in it's execution。 Another edition to the well established Kane & Alton series that has yet to disappoint, exceptional as always。 A tense engaging exciting read that had me hooked from the first page to the last。 Loved catching up with the gang (they feel like old friends) and their goings on, written in a wonderful setting with an amazing plot that is flawless in it's execution。 。。。more

My thanks to D。K。 Hood, Bookoutre and Netgalley。 I'll admit that I wasn't near as impressed as others。 This is book 13 of the series。 It actually read as if it was the first。 Which truly boggled the mind。 Kane and Alton acted like teenagers。 The murders weren't near as fascinating as the author wanted us to believe, nor was the "genius" resolution。 It was all incredibly mundane。 Worst of all? A wonderful locked room mystery。 A crime writers convention at the ski lodge and a huge snowstorm make things difficult for Kane and Alton。  They are stranded at the lodge with a murderer and an abundance of possible suspects。  Can they keep the guests from panicking and find the killer before anyone else dies?
